...tweeted that sailing has become more technical than F1.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Now, I am not going to argue whether or not he is wrong, mainly because I think he is probably right. But, does Mike's statement shed light on how technical sailing has become, or is this more of an indictment of Formula 1 failing to stay ahead of the competition?

With this year's boats, definitely the boats being technical. In F1, the "box" that teams have to design their cars is so small that they're approaching the law of diminishing returns. The AC72 class rule has a much larger "box," so the teams can do much more development.

F1 used to have a fairly large box to play with, though they don't seem to anymore. That was one of the things that made F1 exciting; all the different ways to overcome a problem. Recently, there seems to be less options for success than in previous years, though I'm not sure if that is because the box is that much smaller or because we are at the end of the development cycle with the current cars. Does the box open back up with the 2014 regs or is it a new box with similar dimensions?

The power unit box gets larger, but the bodywork box remains mostly unchanged, save for the low nose, I think.
